Jack Rawson Buhler

Little Jack is here! He was born Thursday morning at 3:33 am. He's just a little guy, weighing in at 5 lbs 10 oz and 19 inches long. He was about a week and a half early - and I was planning on him being a week and a half late - but I guess he just didn't want to wait any longer.

Here is a brief (ok, not so brief) rundown of his birth - I started having some contractions towards the end of work on Wednesday, and as the night went on they started to get more and more frequent, and more and more painful. I called my mom just to let her know and she insisted that she and my dad come down and be with me just in case, because Jason was at the fire dept that night. I didn't think it was the real thing, but thought it would be nice to have them anyway. My dr had told me numerous times to wait until the contractions were 5 minutes apart for at least an hour. Well I didn't want to be an overreactor, and my contractions were all over the place, anywhere from 3 to 8 minutes apart, but by 12:30 in the morning the pain was getting really bad so we decided to go in. That morning I had a dr's appointment and he had told me I was dilated to a one, but when I got to the hospital I was a 3 1/2. The nurse told me I was really in labor so I hurried and called Jason to come home from work and they started hooking me up to IVs to get me ready for the epidural, which I was really needing at this point. It was about an hour later that I actually got the epidural, and I'm sure glad my mom and dad were there to tough it out with me because the contractions were REALLY frequent and REALLY painful. I just need to say right now that I love modern medicine! The person would invented anesthesia is my hero.

So Jason got to the hospital right as I got the epidural and they checked me again and I was dilated to a 9. They told me to wait for the dr before pushing because I was so close, so when he got there about an hour later he noticed that the baby's heart rate would drop every time I had a contraction. I guess it made him really nervous because he laid it all out on the table for me and told me that most new moms push for at least two hours but that Jack would only last through about 20 min of pushing, and then he'd have to do a c-section. I really didn't want a c-section so I pushed with all my might through 3 more contractions and he was here! They discovered his dropping heart rate was due to the cord being wrapped around his neck and body 3 times! He hardly cried at all when he came out, so the respiratory team came and gave him oxygen and all of that but they soon decided he just wasn't crying because he had a good attitude so they took him off all the machines and Jason got to help with his first bath.

Well that was supposed to be the quick version but it definitely turned into the long! I'm so happy that little Jack is here. I've never seen anything so precious in my entire life. He is such a little angel and its true what everyone tells you about love at first sight. I still can't believe Jason and I are parents but it sure is a blessing to have a healthy little boy. We just got home from the hospital tonight and I really like having Jack home. Here are some pictures of the little guy. You can also go to hospitalportraits.com and see the picture the hospital took of him, it turned out really good.

He is such a sweet little angel! I love the second picture! He looks SO tiny - well, he is really tiny, but sometimes in baby pictures it's hard to tell how big (or small) they really are. I'm so glad that I got to meet him! I hope everything goes well at home. Call me if you need anything:)

I've been so sad that I'm out town and haven't been able to come over and see your little guy. I'm glad that you made Rawson his middle name, I really like that. He sure is beautiful and I'm glad that everything went well!

Congrats to you both. I am sure you will be great parents--take every moment to adore and enjoy the first year with your son. Thats right YOUR SON! That is very cool. Anyway, as you mentioned Lindsay--there is nothing that is more precious than Jack, although I would have to disgree. I would have to say that Jason looks pretty precious in that life jacket of his while playing video games.
