St George trip

Jason and Jack and I took a little trip down to St George two weeks ago. I thought I'd write about it before I let it just pass by and move onto Jack's birthday post (which will be next!). We went down during the week and then some friends came and met us for the weekend. It was tons of fun! Before everyone got there, Jason and I went for a hike around one of the sites where I did my field school three years ago. To my surprise, there is now a fenced off area and a plaque talking about one of the room groups that was excavated by our field school! I took a close up of the part where it talked about the site being excavated by BYU students in 2006-2007. If Becca reads this, she'll probably be the only one who really cares, but I thought it was cool! :)

I took Jason on a tour of the rock art. He must think its pretty funny to pretend to deface valuable history.

We tried to do a Lion King thing but Jack and Jason were hooked together too well with the backpack. Oh well.

This rock overhang is where I dug my first test pit. Ah the memories.
After all our friends came down, I for some reason didn't feel the need to pull out my camera again, so this is the last picture I got. We went on a bike ride and Jack wasn't a big fan of the trailer. That's probably why he's elbowing Leighton in the gut. The weekend also included a trip to the public pool, and the girls went for an all day hike around the parade of homes. The boys, however, did a little mountain biking on their own. This sure looks like a group of professionals if I've ever seen one.

Lava Hot Springs

Last week we went to Lava Hot Springs for a few days. Jason planned a surprise trip for me! I was so excited- I've never not had to plan a trip before, it was really nice! All I had to do was pack and go. Jason and I went snowboarding one of the days we were there and Jack went to hang out with the nice lady at the daycare. The mountain didn't have much snow but it sure was a lot of fun snowboarding with Jas! Oh, and it was really foggy. Kind of cool, and kind of scary because you couldn't see very far ahead of you and there were signs everywhere telling you to watch out for rocks. We also went to the hot pools there and Jack seemed to enjoy it. We tried to stay in the coolest end of the coolest pool so the little guy didn't overheat! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures that night. I'm really bad at capturing memories. All in all a very fun trip. The bed and breakfast we stayed at was pretty interesting. It was really old, so anyone who knows me will know that I liked it just for that reason alone. However, they advertised that they had a few hot pools of their own in the hotel, so when we ventured down to the basement and found them, I opted out. They kind of looked like something you would see in a horror movie. And I'm not sure why I look like I'm doing kung fu in the first picture.

Its been forever!

Over the last, hmm.... 3 months since I've posted, I've meant to blog about numerous different things, including Halloween, Jack and other various family fun. But since that would take a lot of time and effort, I'm just going to post the family pictures we had taken at the beginning of Nov. :)

They were done by a girl named Abbey Kyhl and I think she did a great job! I'd recommend her to anyone looking for a really good photographer.

And just as a quick update on Jack, he can now clap his hands and wave. He also says mama and dada all the time, but I don't really think he has meaning behind it, I think they're just fun sounds to make. It's so cute to hear though! He still doesn't have any teeth, but I bet it won't be much longer. He's a speed crawler and moves at an incredible pace if he's motivated by something he wants! He sure is a little stud! I can't go anywhere without Jack working his charm on everyone around him. It's his infectious smile. He's probably the happiest baby I've ever seen. I may be a bit biased, however. ;)

Jack's favorite song

I love finding out new little things about Jack that show me his personality. I've recently discovered Jack has a favorite song! Whenever I'm in my car I put my ipod on random, and the other day when Jack was crying, Three little birds by Bob Marley came on and the moment it started to play, Jack was instantly calm. As soon as the song was over he started to cry again so I put it back on and he quieted right down again. The next day I was telling Jason about it while Jack happened to be crying in the car again and we decided to see if it still worked. This time it put him to sleep. It's uncanny! The moment this song comes on, Jack is happy. I've used my little trick quite a few times now and it hasn't failed me yet. I just never took him for a reggae guy.

Some Random Pictures I've Been Meaning to Post for a While

It's been a while since I've posted, so here are some random pictures to catch me up a little...

Jason and the boys at Station 10B. Crockett, the one on the right, got a bid at a new station so we took a picture to document the original crew.

Since Jason had to work on the 24th, the station decided to have a family bbq and they fed us really well! Here's some pictures we took next to the engine.

Jack's pretty happy to be here.

Jack's even wearing his firetruck outfit - not on purpose.

Driving the truck. We're training him young.

We went to a Bee's game with Jake and Shalise, lot's of fun!

Jack has a new trick. If you set him up on the hill outside our house, he can sit up! He hasn't mastered this on flat ground yet, however.

I love these pictures! I took like 20 of them, because this is the first time I was able to capture jack's smile on camera. Up until this point, the smiles would completely turn off as soon as the camera came out.

I love these smiles!!

This is what happens when you try to feed Jack baby food. He's not a fan.

Here's Jack right after the bath!

Me and Jack just hangin' out.

Jack likes to share with Daisy. They're good pals!

I'm so excited!!!

The main picture is in honor of my favorite 4th of July tradition.... THE CORVETTE SHOW! Every year the corvette club of Utah has a show at the West Jordan Park (except for last year and we don't want to talk about how they ruined my 4th of July.) I'm so excited!! There's nothing better in my opinion than a snow cone in one hand and a multitude of bright, shiny, beautiful corvettes in front of me. But there's a chance we might not be able to bring ours to the show like we do every year because she's not really equipped for car seats. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

I'M SO EXCITED!

P.S. This picture is from when we visited the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.

Strawberries, anyone?

Does anyone know anything about growing strawberries? I obviously don't. They started out so pretty, and I even got a picture of my very first berry, but sadly they've taken a turn for the worse since then. Am I watering too much? Too little? Too much sun, maybe? I have no idea. But just as a side note, this is the planter box that Jason and I made for Mother's Day. I think they came out quite nice!

P.S. I thought this was a cute picture I got the other day of Jack. He always has his hands up in his face, even when he sleeps. Myabe the lights were too bright. Cute little guy!
